Monitoring
- Metering of Energy Commodities
- Currently energy
commodities including electricity, natural gas, steam, propane, and
fuel oil are metered at each building where possible. Some of our
older buildings are grouped together on single meters, and it is not
cost effective to divide them at this point. Additionally,
coal is metered by weight measurement at the steam plant when delivered and as it is
consumed. A mix of meters are used, some with remote monitoring
capabilities, while some must be read manually. Utility Services
manually collects data from all of the meters each month.
- Data Collection
- Collected data for each building is recorded
in our Energy Management Software that allows for the data to be
analyzed. The software also serves as a permanent filing archive for
energy use at each building. At University Park, meter data is
collected manually by Utility Services and transferred electronically into the Energy Management
Software. Commonwealth Campus data is entered manually from monthly
energy bills. Please send monthly bills to Amy Frantz at 113 Physical Plant, University
Park, PA 16802. We are working on an on-line form that allows for the data to be entered here, and send directly to the Energy Software. Collected data is available at Penn State Energy Consumption.
- Energy Enterprise System
- Energy Enterprise Systems link metering with Energy Management Software directly and allow real-time management strategies to be executed through building automation systems. At University Park, our building automation system is know as the CCS, or central control system. We are currently reviewing possible
systems, and plan to implement a system that best meets our needs through
our Guaranteed Energy Savings Program (GESP).
